When Katreen is dumped by her boyfriend, a man who had confessed his undying love for her on their third date, seducing her with talk of marriage and starting a family, she is devastated. After three years, and two failed rounds of IVF, she has no other choice but to move out of the house they shared and, at the age of 45, begin her life anew.

Prompted by a box of love letters written to her by various lovers almost thirty years ago, she decides to return to the dating scene in pursuit of Mr Right where she ends up falling in love with a slew of men decades younger.

There is Jakob, 27, a personal trainer, with his bright blue eyes and strawberry blond curls, who offers to train her for free for an upcoming Tough Mudder challenge. Then there is Ben, 39, who sneaks his business card into the pocket of her bathrobe at a hotel spa on the Baltic coast. And then there is Tristan, 32, who she quickly discovers has a cuckolding fetish.

At a Christmas ball, Katreen meets Alexander, 44, who immediately sends her heart aflutter. Finally, she thinks, she’s met the One. However, at the start of the Covid pandemic, he abruptly ends things.

Taking place over the course of ten years, from 2012 to 2022, it is a journey in search of happiness – with or without a man.
